The new view of Queen Camel is emerging

Walking round the school site from pathways to the view the cows will have the landscape is changing and a new part of the Queen Camel community is emerging .

ICT and purple walls

Lots of meetings are taking place around the details of the new school. This week it was looking at the information communication technology (ICT) from Wi-Fi to Lego technical control and iPads to phone lines. This part of the work is being led by our Deputy Headteacher Ted Wright. He met with Julia Briggs Somerset Education Technology Advisor, Shannen Gratton Somerset Elim-e-Learning and Information Management Service who will manage all procurement, Sue English Headteacher and Simon Patton Chair of Governors.
At the same time on the building site the walls have gone purple as the insulation is being added ready for the external and internal wall fittings.

Kitchen walls

Work moves on a pace on the site. The framework for the new kitchen walls are in place, the roof is being insulated and the bricks have arrived for the plinth around the base of the school. The grasscrete car park space has been levelled ready and all the pipe work is ready on site to link to sewage system.

Ready for Harvest

The new school field has been levelled, rolled and tilled and is ready for sewing the seed. It seems appropriate to plant the grass now ready for the children to enjoy next summer. The soil is a fine colour and already seems to be draining well in some heavy showers. To think soon it will be ready for running, jumping, hoping and skipping. Lots of balls being bounced, thrown, kicked and hit all surrounded by a fantastic view across South Somerset. I wonder what the cattle in the field next door will think of it?

Steering committee catch up

The Governors’ new school steering committee now meet monthly on site. At the recent meeting we heard all is still on track and that the highways authority will soon be submitting what they are going to do along the West Camel Road, such as putting in a crossing point. We heard that the builders are now going to add some solar panels to the roof something we know many local villagers hoped would happen including a request from the Parish Council. It was good to see the new school hoarding up and this will be joined soon by some hoardings the children have designed. There have also been visits to the site by groups of staff and parents with arrangements being made for the children to come soon.
