Physical Education

P.E Purpose of study

A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It should provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.

Intent

At Countess Gytha, Physical Education sits at the heart of the curriculum. Physical Education at Countess Gytha Primary School is concerned with the healthy physical growth and development of each individual child.  Physical Education plays a fundamental role in the overall education of our children, enhancing their lives by encouraging them to engage in purposeful physical activities.

It is our intention:

  • To promote the growth and development of the child.  To enable the child to develop a greater understanding of themselves and others through a healthy mind and body.
  • To promote the acquisition of lifelong skills, attitudes, and behaviours necessary for their individual growth and self-confidence.
  • To develop an understanding of the value of a healthy and active lifestyle.

Implementation

We firmly believe that at Countess Gytha Primary School, if we deliver high quality PE lessons then our children will establish a love for PE and sport and pupils will thrive and reach their full potential.

Our curriculum, which is based on the National Curriculum requirements, provides challenging and enjoyable learning through a range of sporting activities including; invasion games, net and wall games, strike and field games, gymnastics, yoga, dance, swimming and outdoor and adventure.
