Christingle

We had our Christingle service this week.  It all started with making our Christingles...which was good fun!

We then visited St Barnabus Church for our Christingle service.

Santa Visit

We had another surprise visitor this week...Father Christmas landed at our school in a helicopter!! We have been busy writing our letters to Santa this year, so this was the perfect opportunity to give our Christmas letters to him to make sure he has them in plenty of time...fingers crossed we've all been good this year!

Thank you to the staff at Yeovilton airbase who make this special event possible.

We had a surprise visitor to our school today... Pudsey!! We were delighted to see him and invited him into the class for some photos (and lots of hugs and high fives).

Maths Curriculum Evening

Thank you to those parents who attended the maths curriculum evening...it was particularly fun to see the children challenging adults to complete an MTC (Multiplication Tables Check)!  If you were unable to attend, copies of the documents which were available on the evening have been uploaded below.

Cinema Trip

We travelled to Cineworld in Yeovil to watch a special  screening of the documentary film 'The Eagle Huntress'.  It tells the story of thirteen-year-old Aisholpan who trains to become the first female in twelve generations of her nomad family to become an eagle huntress.

Viking Artefacts

We have been exploring a range of Viking artefacts in our History lessons.  We have focused on the Coppergate Dig from 1976-1981 which uncovered new and exciting facts about York’s prosperous Viking-era trade

Investigating Levers

We had fun using different sized teddies to discover where the fulcrum (pivot) on a lever would need to be, in order for the effort (small teddy) to lift the load (large teddy). Initially some of us would not believe that the small teddy would be capable of lifting the load!!

As part of a combined DT/Computing unit, children used the program Live Home 3D to re-create Excalibur classroom. After taking measurements of key areas of the room during a maths lesson, children then learnt to model their surroundings before then capturing screen shots and walk-through videos to show off the "Excalibur Experience!"

In PE this week, we have been enjoying some circuits - based on running, jumping and throwing!

Friction

We have being investigating which material would make the most effective bicycle brake pad.  We predicted which material (plastic, bubble wrap, towel, foil, carpet) would create the most friction against the wheel to stop it spinning the quickest.

Water resistance

We completed a mini-investigation to discover which shape would fall the quickest through the water...the sphere...the cone...or the cube?

...and the quickest falling shape was...

...the cone!

Harvest

We continued our traditional Harvest service this year, however, due to the persistent wet weather we hosted it in our school hall rather than the planned venue of St Barnabus Church.  Our class looked at Harvest around the world...

Homophones

We have been learning to distinguish between homophones i.e there, their and they're.  At the end of the lesson we completed a kahoot quiz with a partner, and the winners were...

Parachutes

We have enjoyed conducting an experiment on air resistance using parachutes. We dropped square parachutes ranging from 10cm-50cm to see which would be the most successful - drop the slowest.

European Day of Languages 2024

Science

During this half term, we are studying forces in science.  We have being learning about gravity and its force pulling to the centre of Earth and how Sir Isaac Newton was linked to this discovery.  We had had lots of fun using newton meters to measure and compare the weight of an object (newtons) to the mass of an object (kilograms).

Samba Drumming

This half term we are having samba drumming lessons with Mr Male.  We are really enjoying exploring and learning about  the sounds and volume we can create with the drums...
