This week sees preparations for the playground and surround hard surfaces. Careful levelling, skilful rolling and clever edging mean the space is ready for the first of the top coats of tarmac. The area outside the pre-school part of the foundation unit will be a soft play surface. The building teams are looking forward to clean surfaces round the school as it will mean most of the mud is covered up and the site will be much cleaner as the finishing touches are added.

Lots of the outside finishing touches are being put in place. The cream colour plaster finish of the walls as seen with Graham the site manager, the plant room doors and the structures to support the covered play areas outside the Foundation Unit and Key stage one classes.

The first blue coats of the classroom feature walls have been painted and the sink units are being fitted. The toilets are being worked on and the picture shows the special low yellow sink unit base for the reception class and a pile of doors all made of sustainable wood.

Wires are bursting out in all corners of the school. White for electric, blue for the internet connections and red for the fire alarm system. Alongside them the pipes are being insulated and special heat exchangers units to help keep the school warm.
<gdiv></gdiv>
The new kitchen extractor system has been installed as have the units to support it on the roof. It took some putting in the building team explained on our latest visit. The view from the hatch into hall and from the hall into the kitchen is taking shape
<gdiv></gdiv>
The views from around the school continue to establish themselves. In the next few weeks the landscape team will arrive to establish the banks and the boarders. The contractor’s bam report they are still on track to hand over the school at the end of the first week of April.

Santa flies in over new school to check all is going well and test out how well the roof is fixed on!!! The children walked up to the village playing field to greet Santa in his Merlin helicopter. Santa, ones of his Elves and helicopter pilot chatted to the children before setting off back over the new school for the North Pole to prepare for Christmas.

The new hall is really impressive and as many of the children on a recent visit said it was the best bit describing it as ‘incredible’ and ‘awesome’. The hall is already being eyed up by local badminton players and parents are looking forward to being able to all sit down at the very well supported productions with the extra space for chairs!!! The new hall will allow us to do so much more educationally and will be a really asset to the community as a whole.

Now the screed over the under floor heating is down and the walls have been prepared for painting the classrooms from the foundation stage to year six are looking great spaces for learning. Now they are putting in all the electrics and plumbing and soon the painting will start. As you walk round the natural light really makes the school feel light and airy.

As the inside of the school is emerging the outside is also coming on well. The hardstanding base for the new outdoor play spaces, playgrounds and entrances is being finalised. The warm creamy colour of the walls is also being added in the final layer of render. If you look up to the side of the hall you can see what the colour will look like.
