19/10/26 - Road Safety Talk
Today, we welcomed a visitor from Somerset Council’s Road Safety Team, who delivered an informative and engaging talk to the children about the importance of staying safe on and around our roads.
The children learnt about how to cross roads safely, the importance of being aware of their surroundings and how to make sensible choices when walking near traffic. They were encouraged to think carefully about the steps they can take to keep themselves and others safe.
It was a valuable opportunity to reinforce these important life skills, and the children listened carefully and showed great enthusiasm throughout.
A big thank you to Somerset Council’s Road Safety Team for visiting us and sharing such important messages!
13/10/26 - Harvest Festival
Today, we ventured down to our village church for our annual Harvest Festival celebration. It was a wonderful opportunity to come together and celebrate this special time of year.
Some of the children from King Arthur Class proudly performed their very own autumn-themed poems, entitled ‘Autumn is Here!’, which they had written during the week. They read with confidence and enthusiasm, putting into practice the performance poetry techniques they had been learning in English lessons.
We also enjoyed singing some of our favourite harvest songs, including ‘Big Red Combine Harvester’, ‘Cauliflowers Fluffy’ and ‘Harvest Samba’.
A huge well done to all the children for their fantastic performances and for making our Harvest Festival such a lovely celebration!
9/10/26 - Hello Yellow Day
Today, Countess Gytha Primary School was a sea of yellow as we came together to celebrate Hello Yellow Day in support of YoungMinds and raising awareness of children's mental health.
The children brightened up the school by wearing yellow and took part in a range of activities focused on mental health and wellbeing. Throughout the day, we explored the importance of recognising our emotions, talking about our feelings, showing kindness to others and looking after our own mental health.
A huge thank you to all our families for their generous donations and for supporting such an important cause.
It was wonderful to see everyone coming together to spread positivity and remind one another that we all have mental health, and no one should feel alone. 💛
25/9/25 - European Day of Languages
King Arthur Class had a fantastic time celebrating European Day of Languages!
Our chosen country was Italy, and the children came to school dressed in the colours of the Italian flag – red, white and green.
Throughout the day, we explored Italy through a range of activities. The children researched key facts about the country, including its capital city, famous landmarks and weather, and even had a go at speaking some Italian words and phrases.
One of the highlights of the day was becoming Italian chefs! The children followed an authentic Italian recipe to make their own pizzas from scratch, preparing the dough and choosing their toppings before enjoying their finished creations.
It was a brilliant day of languages, culture, geography and food, and a wonderful way to learn more about Italy and celebrate the diversity of languages across Europe.
14/9/26 - Science
Today in Science, we explored the human skeleton and learned about some of the major bones in our bodies. The children enjoyed looking closely at examples of X-rays and seeing if they could identify some of the bones they had been learning about.
We then brought our learning to life by using masking tape to map out our own body's skeletons! The children had great fun thinking carefully about where each bone is located and how our skeletons are structured.
A fantastic hands-on way to learn more about the amazing human body!
9/9/26 - Maths
We’ve jumped straight into some fantastic place value work in Maths!
The children have been exploring two and three-digit numbers, developing their understanding of the value of each digit. They have been busy partitioning numbers into hundreds, tens and ones and using a range of representations to help build their confidence and understanding.
A brilliant start to our Maths learning!
