28/4/25 - PSHE Workshop
King Arthur Class received a workshop today, in which they explored the concept of accepting what we can’t control and managing our feelings at such times. They also thought about how they could accept themselves as they are and how they might be able to change things so that they can be their best selves. In the same way, they also learnt about accepting others as they are.
25/4/25 - We jumped straight into the Summer Term with poetry week for our first week back at school! The children have explored a variety of poets and listened to some of their poems, analysing how they made them think and feel. They have also explored a variety of poetics features, which they then used these to create their own poems.
The title of our poems was 'The School of Nuts and Nonsense', and the children created repetitive poems in which all sorts of crazy things could happen at school! We had great fun writing these and enjoyed reading and performing them to each other.
4/4/25 - D&T
To conclude our unit on the Romans, the children this afternoon built chariots based on designs they had made to meet a criteria. They children had studied the features of a chariot, as well as looked at the mechanisms needed to allow it to function.
3/4/25 - Easter Egg Hunt
Thank you to the PTFA for donating the delicious chocolate eggs for our Easter Egg Hunt, the children had great fun hunting all over the school to find them!
2/4/25 - Easter Service
We have had a very enjoyable afternoon walking down to the village church for our Easter Service! The children wore their Easter Bonnets and enjoyed listening to the other class's contributions to the service.
Well done to Luke, Henry, Layla and Hattie for representing King Arthur Class and reading their Easter themed poems so clearly!
1/4/25 - Onjali Rauf
King Arthur Class were incredibly fortunate to have had another author come in to visit us today - the amazing Onjali Rauf!
Onjali spoke to us about the inspiration for her books and the incredible work she does with some of the refugee charities. The children were able to ask her lots of questions and she even signed some of their books!
28/3/25 - Ben Pulletz
Today we had the pleasure of being visited by Ben Pulletz, a local author, who came in to tell us all about his book 'Luna Explores Somerset'. Ben has a very keen interest in nature and wildlife and wrote his book to help promote this passion. He read a few extracts to the children, then helped them plant some wildflower seeds which will help enrich our own school environment!
25/3/25 - Class Trip
Today we visited the Roman Villa at The Newt. We started in the museum, where we looked at the ancient artefacts and the ruins of a Roman Bath House. We then split up into four groups and completed different activities. Group 1 chose the correct pots, glasses and tableware for a Roman dinner party. Group 2 had to collect and calculate the cost of the ingredients for the dinner party. Group 3 had to decide who to invite to the party, and finally Group 4 designed and decorated an olive oil jug.
After that, we went over to the Roman Villa and had a quick drink and some delicious homemade biscuits. We then went into the outhouse, where we completed some more activities, including making a mosaic using tiny pieces of tesserae, learning how to weave sheep's wool into fabric, uncovering and reconstructing Roman pots and looking at Roman artefacts.
Finally, we went for a tour of the Roman Villa. The children explored the different rooms and who would use those rooms, as well as got to dip their hands into the lovely warm water in the bath house!
We had a fantastic day!
21/3/25 - Red Nose Day
Thank you to everyone who made a donation for Red Nose Day today and well done to all of the children for coming to school in their best red outfits!

We have had a fabulous day celebrating World Book Day; the children have loved coming to school dressed as their favourite characters from both fiction and non-fiction books alike!
We started the morning with a costume parade and a discussion about our favourite books. We then decorated our classroom door, turning King Arthur Class's entry into the magical wardrobe portal into Narnia! After break, we participated in the BBC's live read along lesson, listening to various authors and talking about the different genres of text. Finally, after lunch, we enjoyed a hot chocolate and a biscuit in the reading cafe, before reading the book 'The Day The Crayons Quit' in Spanish! The best part of the day, however, was Mr Gordon and Mr Bunter's re-enactment of the chocolate cake scene from Roald Dahl's Matilda!

10/2/25 - Wessex Water Workshop
Today, Sam from Wessex Water came to tell us about the value of water and how it is a precious resource.
The children explored where we can obtain water, and were particularly fascinated to learn that 97% of the Earth's water comes from the sea, so only 3% is drinkable fresh water.
They also conducted an experiment to see how much water can be found in fruits, and were surprised to see how much water could be obtained from cucumbers and tomatoes!
10/2/25 - Music
King Arthur Class Year 3s have been working hard in music to learn a song linked to our Romans topic, called 'Invade'. We have been practicing and are looking forward to performing our piece to the rest of the school in assembly!

17/1/25 - Art Day
King Arthur Class had the pleasure of working with Darrell Wakelam today, who helped them create a magnificent mosaic. The children picked this focus for their art day, as we are learning about the Romans this term. They soon gained an appreciation for how long it must have taken for the Romans to create such masterpieces; the miniscule pieces of tile were very fiddly and time consuming to assemble! Despite this, King Arthur Class have created a wonderful piece of artwork which they are all very proud of.
12/1/25 - Computing
We've come back after Christmas full of energy and ready for a new term!
The children enjoyed a 'hands on' computing lesson this afternoon, focused on using digital media. They explored different devices that can be used to take photographs and had a go at taking some themselves, by playing a game of 'photography bingo'. They had to capture a close up shot, a distance shot, an action shot, a selfie, a photo of a building and a picture of a person.
Their very own masterpieces will be uploaded soon!

12/12/24 - Nativity
KS1 put on a spectacular performance for the Nativity this year. Well done to all of the children, but especially to King Arthur's Year 2s who worked really hard to memorise their lines and performed them with such enthusiasm and confidence!
11/12/24 - PSHE
In PSHE today, the children explored the impact of words on a person's feelings. We started of by reading the story 'The Ugly Duckling' by Hans Christian Anderson and how the duckling must of felt being treated differently to the others.
We then got out a fresh, clean, perfect sheet of paper to represent a person's feelings. The feelings were then passed around, and the children said unkind things to it and crumpled it up. After saying these things, they were then encouraged to apologise. Even though they had apologised, they soon realised that they would be unable to return the paper to it's previously perfect state and that sometimes, apologies are not always enough.
We discussed the impact of words and how it is important to be mindful of what we say. The children then concluded this lesson by writing five kind things they could say to each other instead, and shared them with their peers.
11/12/24 - Christmas Lunch
The children enjoyed popping their crackers and wearing their festive jumpers and headwear for their Christmas dinner today!
4/12/24 - Christingle

8/10/24 - Harvest Festival
Despite the heavy downpour, the rain didn't stop us celebrating the Harvest Festival today! We heard all about the meaning of Harvest and how the Harvest is celebrated in other countries, and some of the children from King Arthur Class read their poems entitled 'Five Things I Love About Autumn'. It was also a lovely opportunity to meet our new Interim Vicar, Reverend Caroline Walker.
