Careers and Future Aspirations

Welcome to our Careers and Futures page — a space dedicated to inspiring our children to dream big, discover new possibilities and believe in their own potential.

At our school, we believe every child has unique talents, interests and aspirations. Through exploring a wide range of careers and professions, we aim to broaden children’s horizons and help them understand the many exciting opportunities that could be available to them in the future. From scientists and engineers to artists, entrepreneurs, healthcare workers and performers, we want our children to see that there is no limit to what they can achieve.

By introducing children to different workplaces, skills and role models, we help them develop ambition, confidence and resilience. We encourage our pupils to understand that success comes through determination, hard work and self-belief. Most importantly, we want every child to know that their background should never limit their future and that, with effort and perseverance, they really can achieve anything they set their minds to.

Throughout this page, you will find information about our careers events, visiting speakers, workshops and enrichment opportunities that help prepare our children for the ever-changing world beyond the classroom. Together, we are helping to build confident, motivated and aspirational learners who are excited about their futures.

NHS Day

.On Thursday Lancelot enjoyed a very special NHS Day, where children had the opportunity to learn all about the amazing work carried out by the National Health Service and the many different people who help keep us healthy.

Throughout the day, children discovered the wide range of careers within the NHS. They learned that it is not only doctors and nurses who work in hospitals and clinics, but also paramedics, therapists, pharmacists, scientists, reception staff and many more professionals who play an important role in caring for others.

The day also helped pupils understand the values of kindness, teamwork and dedication that are at the heart of the NHS. It was wonderful to see children thinking about how people work together to support patients and families every day.

Events like this are an important part of our school’s commitment to raising awareness of different careers and helping pupils begin to imagine the many possibilities for their future.

Horse Safety Visit from the British Horse Society

This week we were delighted to welcome a special visitor from the British Horse Society who came to speak to our pupils about staying safe around horses and even to have a career within the forces with horses .

During the session, children learned about how to behave sensibly when they see horses on roads, bridleways, or in fields. Our visitor explained how large and powerful horses are, and why it is important to remain calm, quiet, and give them plenty of space. Pupils were particularly interested in learning how horses communicate through their body language and what different signs might mean.

The children also discussed how to act safely if they are walking, cycling, or travelling in a car near horses. They discovered why riders sometimes signal to traffic and how slowing down and being patient can help keep both riders and horses safe.

The session was engaging and informative, with lots of opportunities for pupils to ask questions and share their own experiences of seeing horses in our local area. We would like to thank the British Horse Society for taking the time to visit our school and help our pupils learn more about horse safety and responsible behaviour around animals.

It was a fantastic opportunity for our children to gain valuable knowledge that will help keep everyone safe when sharing spaces with horses.

AI careers workshops

After initially meeting Beth at a previous school event we were delighted to welcome get into our school this week to deliver two engaging AI in Schools workshops for our children. The sessions were thoughtfully planned and perfectly pitched for primary-aged children, making a complex and exciting topic easy to understand and explore.

Both classes were fully engaged throughout the workshops. Beth introduced the children to the world of artificial intelligence in a fun, interactive way, encouraging them to think about how AI works, where we might see it in everyday life, and how it could shape the future. The activities sparked lots of curiosity, thoughtful questions and imaginative ideas from the pupils.

It was fantastic to see the children developing their digital awareness while also discussing important themes such as creativity, responsibility and how technology can be used positively. The workshops complemented our wider curriculum and helped pupils begin to understand the role technology may play in future careers.

Thank you Beth for delivering such inspiring sessions. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and left feeling excited about the possibilities of AI.

Thales Group

The visit from Thales Group has directly strengthened our career-related learning strategy by providing pupils with meaningful, real-world insight into STEM careers and the skills required within advanced technology industries. Meeting industry professionals helped pupils connect classroom learning — particularly in science, computing and problem-solving — with authentic career pathways, making learning more purposeful and aspirational. This supports our long-term planning to raise awareness of a wide range of careers, challenge stereotypes, and build pupils’ understanding of future employment sectors.

The experience also supports our strategic aim to embed careers education across the curriculum and ensure regular engagement with employers. It has helped us meet key objectives around broadening horizons, developing employability skills such as teamwork and resilience, and strengthening links between education and industry. The visit has informed future planning by identifying opportunities for continued partnerships, curriculum enrichment, and progressive exposure to career pathways as pupils move through the school.

Year 5 and 6 visit the Houses of Parliament

Children in Year 5 and 6 took the opportunity to visit the seat of Government in the UK - The Houses of Parliament! Taking a guided tour throughout the historic building, appreciating such sites as the discovery of the Gunpowder Plot, where Queen Elizabeth II lay in state, as well as a brilliant workshop exploring how laws are passed in this country and an immersive 360* video documenting the history of Parliament.

The group were also lucky enough to sit in the benches of the House of Commons, as well as observe from the Strangers' Gallery a live debate in the House of Lords.

Somerset Sustainable Futures Careers Event

Today, selected pupils from Year 6 attended an exciting event exploring the future of green and digital careers. They met local employers and educators and explored a careers exhibition focused on real-world sustainability challenges.

The children also shared their own presentation to their peers  about how artificial intelligence could support sustainability, considering both its benefits and challenges. The event encouraged thoughtful discussion, creativity, and reinforced our commitment to preparing children for the careers of tomorrow while encouraging them to think responsibly about the world they will help to shape.

Inspirational Visit from Former Student

This week, our school was privileged to welcome an inspirational guest speaker — a former student of Mrs. Sherry, who shared her incredible journey of resilience and determination. Living with cerebral palsy, she spoke openly about the challenges she has faced and how they have shaped her into the confident, motivated person she is today.

She told us about her studies in Diction and how her condition has never stopped her from chasing her dreams and achieving her goals. Her message of perseverance, self-belief, and positivity truly inspired everyone in attendance.

Our students left the talk feeling uplifted and empowered, reminded that with passion and hard work, no obstacle is too great to overcome.
