Welcome to Guinevere‘s Home Learning Page

Week 12

Hello all!

It’s our final week of home learning for this term. I hope you’ve enjoyed the English, Maths, Art, Geography, Science and Spanish activities this half term. I’m finishing off with a range of English comprehensions and writing, art activities based around the work of Roald Dahl, which will hopefully inspire independent reading over the Summer. There are some maths based games as well as some Geography and Science recap work. As usual, I’ve added some art so you can express your creativity, Feel free to use any book as your inspiration for that one.

I hope you have an excellent Summer and wish you the very best of luck.

Week 11

Hello everybody,
I’d like you to test yourself on the European Geography we’ve been studying with
the powerpoint quiz which has 30 questions. You will have to spot countries on the map, know
capital cities and the flags of European countries so you should revise all the work we have been
doing before taking the 30 mark quiz. Good luck!

Week 11 European Geography Quiz

Continuing with the European theme, and following on from last week’s work on
Spanish numbers I’ve added some exercises so you can learn about Spanish food. Begin by
completing the Spanish Food Vocabulary Menu. Once you have done this, practise writing about
which foods you like or dislike with the Food Options activity then have a go at the crossword.

spanish food vocabulary , T-T-6095-Spanish-I-Like-Dislike-Food-Powerpoint , Spanish food options , Spanish Food Fill in and Crossword Activity Sheet

For Art this week we are going to move out of Europe to Japan. First read through
the Manga powerpoint. Then you can have a go at producing your own Manga portrait.

all about manga , draw a manga character

If you enjoyed the Lichtenstein grids last week you may wish to continue with any remaining grids you
didn’t complete. Using the grids is a very good way to ensure you get the proportions and scale
exactly right in your art work.

In English I want to focus on punctuating sentences this week, alongside the completion of the spelling sheets and two comprehension exercises on Roald Dahl’s’s Matilda. The extended writing this week is also based on the Matilda extracts .

Punctuation and Spelling Exercises : correct the sentence , correct the spelling mistake worksheets

Comprehension : Comprehension Exercises on Matilda (1)

Writing : Mrs Phelps’ Diary
Imagine that you are Mrs Phelps and that you are writing a diary entry about Matilda. Try to show how amazed and impressed she is with Matilda. Here are some points you may wish to include in your diary.

 What you thought of Matilda when she first arrived in the library and
what you felt about her not being taken there by her parents.
 What she thinks about Matilda’s reading habits.
 What books she recommends to Matilda and why.
 What she talks about with Matilda

Have different paragraphs for different sections and double check your punctuation. Remember that Mrs Phelps is very intelligent so will know and use lots of interesting words.

Week 10

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all doing well ! This week there’s more Geography in the form of a flag quiz followed by an activity in which you make your own European fortune teller device. Once you’ve completed the one on the sheet you can use it to revise capitals, countries and flags before making your own. Also remember to check you’ve completed the History exercises that were put up at the start of home learning.

European Neighbours Day Flag Quiz Activity Sheets

For Art this week we’ll look at the artist, Roy Lichtenstein. Read through the pdf and you’ll see that he links to the superhero work from last week. Then have a bash at your own Lichtenstein pop art. The Lichtenstein grid art resource may help with this. Don’t print all of it, just any that you find inspiring. Some use the points effect (especially on skin tones) but all use the broad, clear lines of comic book drawing and strong, vibrant colour design. Why not finish by completing your own Lichtenstein style self-portrait complete with speech bubble!

I thought it would also be good to revise some simple Spanish before the end of term. To begin with watch the celebrity video detailing Spanish numbers. After you’ve watched it here’s an activity to complete.

Week 9

Hello everyone,

keep sending work in –  it’s good to see what you’re busy with at home. This week in  Geography I’d like you to try to complete the sheet naming capital cities of European countries. You might want to practise by looking again at last week’s word-searches, before attempting the name that capital sheet. After this, there’s the flags worksheet which I will test you on next week.

Name-that-capital (3)

flags activity sheet

After completing the flags activity I’d also like you to revise the following countries’ flags which will also be on the quiz. Both these countries and the ones on the flags activity sheet will feature on next week’s quiz. (Austria, Czech Republic, Albania, Belgium, Estonia, Switzerland)

I’ve given you options for this week’s Art exercise.  Have a go creating your own superhero with the superhero template. You can always note down on whichever sheet or sheets you complete the particular skills your hero has. You can also combine this with research into common expressions and costumes. If you’re still feeling creative at the end of this, I’ve added a resource that can guide you into making your own superhero outfit and picture.

Week 8

Hello everybody,

I hope you are all well. I’ve added a few more resources and activities for you that I hope you enjoy. Remember that you can always email  your work for me to see, whether it’s a piece of art, a story, an advert or even a test score. (homelearning@countessgytha.ppat365.org).

Firstly, Science. Last week I asked you to look at reversible and irreversible changes. This week I’d like you to do a few experiments on that theme. We’ll look at dissolving, so carry out the activities on this link to remind yourself of key fact and terms.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zjty4wx/articles/zpbdpbk

Then there are two experiments you may be able to carry out if you have the materials at home. Remember to only carry these out when you are being supervised. The first experiment has a worksheet for you to record your findings. Just fill out the first two sheets and the answers can then be checked on the second two.

Experiment 1

Geography. Last week I asked you to research the countries on the map of Europe I put up and revise for a test this week. I would like you to try to write the names of the numbered countries on the first page and then check your answers against the list on the last sheet. Did you get more of them correct this time? If you did, well done! If not, revise again and keep testing yourself.

t2-g-275-name-the-european-country-activity-_ver_2

Then I would like to start thinking about capital cities of European countries. Start by researching the names of capital cities for Europe. Once you have researched them you can start to practise. I’ve added some wordsearches for you to use to do this. The first wordsearch has the names of capital cities. The second and third are more challenging as they name the country and you have to find the capital city of that country.

european cities wordsearch

You can also test yourself with this quiz.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/quizzes/top-class-european-capital-cities

Next week I will ask you if you can remember the capital cities of countries on the wordsearches.

Art. I hope last week’s mosaics worked out well. Pablo Picasso is probably the most famous artist of the last 100 years. Find out about him here :

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zq34wmn

Start by creating a collage of different parts of faces seen from different angles to put together a portrait like the one in the video.

This document has a game you can play as well as the address of a site with a draw like Picasso tutorial.

Here’s the rest of your work with Maths and English lessons. The English builds up to producing a piece of persuasive writing through producing an advert . The comprehension includes a poster and the spelling is in the form of a crossword.

Week 7

Hello everyone,

I hope that you enjoyed your weekend. I’ve included a range of activities for the following week that should help you to keep making good progress. If you remember the lesson I did with you before Easter, I’ve used that as a basis for some extended writing. I’ve included a few opportunities for you to be artistic on that one too. I’ve based the spelling activities around wordsearches that I hope you enjoy. For the comprehension there are different levels of difficulty so I’d advise you to have a look at them both before choosing one to do.

There is some maths to recap the skills you’be been developing this year as well as your continuing Ancient Egyptian project , Science and Art. The Science continues on from the States of Matter unit. There’s no experiment this week but there’s a really good one for next week to look forward to. I’d also like you to revise the sheet on European countries over the week because I’m going to include a test on it next week and maybe even the week after that.

Take care of yourselves,

Mr O’Brien

Art

After having a choice of collage. print or paint last week I thought it would be good to keep creating art in a range of styles. Here’s an activity on mosaics to keep you creating.

create a mosaic

Geography

First of all see how many of the numbered countries you definitely know. Then write down the number.  Research the numbered counties so that you can fill out the missing numbers on the map. After that I’d like you to check your answers against the answers on the final slide. Then keep testing yourself on your ability to locate and recognise the countries on the map. Next week you will have to name the numbered countries again and as long as you revise you should see an improvement in your score.

Week 6

Welcome back to the last half term of this unprecedented academic year!  We hope you have had a lovely half term, and managed to enjoy the warm sunshiny weather which was a lovely bonus to the week!

After this week, Mr O’Brien will be taking the ropes and setting Guinevere’s work each week. Many of you will remember him from before Easter. Below is a link to a quick video where he introduces himself.

https://safeshare.tv/x/v6p2RFLt9M0

This week’s work is going to have an Art focus, in particular a famous painting by Henri Rousseau called ‘Surprised!’ There is a small copy of it shown below, however we have included a link to the National Gallery which allows you to study it in greater detail.

Tiger in a Tropical Storm (Surprised!), 1891 by Henri Rousseau

The subjects available to study this week can be found on the suggested timetable, and resources you will need can be found below.  Enjoy being creative!

Please do not feel compelled to print all worksheets for this week’s home learning.  Where possible, children can answer the questions from any of the worksheets on screen, using paper and pencil methods.

PSHE

Our focus this week is social distancing and personal hygiene. The resources have been created with children in mind and attempt to answer the many questions they may have and help inform them of how to keep safe. The experiment at the end truly illustrates to all children the importance of hand washing and is definitely worth a watch…or even try out the experiment yourself!

PE

It is important that our children continue to exercise for their health and Mental Well-being.

There are 2 options for PE this week, as we appreciate that Joe Wicks’ energetic workouts do not suit everyone. This week, you have the option to continue with Joe Wicks’ high impact workouts or access cosmic yoga; you could even mix it up and do a combination of the 2.
