Guinevere Class Home Learning

Welcome to Guinevere‘s Home Learning Page

Week 6

Welcome back to the last half term of this unprecedented academic year!  We hope you have had a lovely half term, and managed to enjoy the warm sunshiny weather which was a lovely bonus to the week!

This week’s work is going to have an Art focus, in particular a famous painting by Henri Rousseau called ‘Surprised!’ There is a small copy of it shown below, however we have included a link to the National Gallery which allows you to study it in greater detail.

Tiger in a Tropical Storm (Surprised!), 1891 by Henri Rousseau

https://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/paintings/henri-rousseau-surprised

The subjects available to study this week can be found on the suggested timetable, and resources you will need can be found below.  Enjoy being creative!

Please do not feel compelled to print all worksheets for this week’s home learning.  Where possible, children can answer the questions from any of the worksheets on screen, using paper and pencil methods.

PSHE

Our focus this week is social distancing and personal hygiene. The resources have been created with children in mind and attempt to answer the many questions they may have and help inform them of how to keep safe. The experiment at the end truly illustrates to all children the importance of hand washing and is definitely worth a watch…or even try out the experiment yourself!

Art & Design

Have a look at the art lesson below.  It explores our focus painting ‘Surprised!’ and then has some ideas for painting, collage and printmaking.

There are also some art ideas on the National gallery website of a collage inspired by the painting ‘Surprised!’. Watch along as Bethan, one of the Educators, creates a jungle-inspired work of art using just materials you can find at home.

Science

We are continuing with studying States of matter this half term. This week we are developing our understanding of the new processes we explored in the previous science experiments completed and how they feature in the Water cycle.

Read the power point below to inform you of the water cycle and it’s various stages.

The Water Cycle

Complete the activity sheet to consolidate your learning of the water cycle.

Attempt the simple experiment below to further illustrate the stages of the water cycle (you simply need a food bag, blue food colouring and water!)

Week 5

How did you find your Ancient Egyptian focus work last week? We hope you enjoyed studying the ‘Mummification’ process and produced lots of great work.  It is lovely to see the work you have been completing, so please continue to share this with us via the home learning email, which is: homelearning@countessgytha.ppat365.org   We can see you have been working hard and all we ask is that you try your best – don’t worry if you don’t find the time to complete all the work outlined each week.

This week requires you to become a scientist!! Before starting this week’s work, which is all based on our science topic ‘States of Matter’, you may want to revise work covered so far by visiting the lesson below on BBC Bitesize.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zvxthbk

(If you completed last week’s science work you are probably ready to start!)

This week we are looking at water changing state due to different processes (see the Exploring processes information sheet)

Exploring Processes Information sheet

There are 3 experiments which you can carry out, it is totally optional, as there are links to videos on you tube which demonstrate 3 experiments similar to the ones enclosed. Have fun and enjoy!

Warning….to complete the writing task this week you will need to either have completed one or more of the experiments or watched the related experiments on YouTube.

To launch this week’s science work we have filmed a game which you can play – you may wish to invite your family to play along – we hope you enjoy it!
